My name is Annie Winter.
When I lived in Thailand, I used to visit foreign prisoners there. I do not have a degree in Criminology, Social Work, nor did I ever really have any form of knowledge about prisoners, prisons, criminals, criminality etc. However, I had an overpowering feeling that this is what the good Lord wanted me to do and I was damn good at it too. I learned so much about the needs of prisoners, their families, the people who 'guard' them - and so much about myself too.
I live in Japan now and because I do not speak Japanese, I am not allowed to visit any foreigners in Japanese prisons.
I am sure, that there are many, many people (humble people) like myself who really need to share their experiences and to try to understand all the whys and whatevers of having visited a prison.
Thank you,
annie
